340 passengers and train crew members were evacuated after the Odesa-Dnipro train was hit. There were no casualties or injuries among those evacuated, Ukrzaliznytsia reported.
Two railway workers died. The locomotive driver and his assistant did not have time to evacuate - the drone sharply changed its trajectory, and the crew did not have enough time to fully stop the train and get out. Ukrzaliznytsia stated that the deceased performed their duty to the last and did everything possible for the safety of passengers.
The locomotive was hit by a Russian jet "Shahed". The threat was detected while the train was still moving in the Odesa region. According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, the monitoring group ordered the train to stop - the train was just approaching the station, which allowed passengers to safely exit the carriages.
People were delivered to Odesa by 21 buses. The regional, city and district military administrations, police, rescuers and other services participated in the evacuation.
