The fire at the landfill in Pavlohrad occurred during planned reclamation works on one of the sections. This is reported by local Telegram channels.
Due to windy weather, smoke spread to residential areas, where residents may smell burning. The city council advises citizens to keep windows closed until the fire is completely extinguished.
According to utility services, the deep smoldering of waste and the specifics of the landfill lead to significant smoke. Seven units of utility equipment, two fire trucks, and State Emergency Service units are working at the scene. Rescuers are working continuously.
Foci of ignition are being doused with water and covered with soil to block oxygen access to smoldering waste. Experts consider this method to be the most effective for extinguishing landfill fires.
City authorities assure that after the fire is completely extinguished, the smoke and burning smell will disappear.
