During a routine raid, the Dnipropetrovsk Fish Protection Patrol discovered 12 ownerless crayfish traps in a body of water, containing 604 crayfish. This was reported by the fish protection patrol.
The prohibited fishing gear was confiscated, and the crayfish, with a total mass of 13.6 kilograms, were released back into the water. This prevented potential damages to Ukraine's fishing industry, which could have exceeded 2 million hryvnias. Following the raid, inspectors drew up a report on the discovery and seizure of ownerless property.
The patrol emphasizes that abandoned crayfish traps and other prohibited fishing gear in water bodies pose a serious threat to aquatic bioresources: fish, crayfish, and other aquatic inhabitants often die in such traps.
Experts assure that they will continue raids and clear the water bodies of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions of abandoned poaching gear. Citizens are urged to report cases of illegal harvesting of aquatic bioresources to the fish protection patrol hotline.
