Kryvbasvodokanal has begun renovating the main water pipeline in the Ternivskyi district of Kryvyi Rih. The pipe connects the Northern pumping station with the Industrial pumping station and is a key drinking water supply artery for a significant part of the city.
Who and what this network covers
The section to be replaced is 3.1 km long. Through it, the settlements of Hleiuvatka, Horkoho, and Vesely Kut, as well as CGZK, receive water. In addition, the water pipeline is a backup water supply source for residential areas in the vicinity of Serhiia Kolachevskoho Street, Kashtanova Street, Oleksiia Solomianoho Street, Charivna Street, and adjacent territories.
In total, the water supply for about 56 thousand residents of the Ternivskyi and Pokrovskyi districts depends on the operation of this network. The list of facilities connected to the water pipeline also includes kindergartens, schools, and six boiler houses.
Why the pipe needs replacement
The 500 mm diameter steel pipe was laid in 1959 – meaning it is already 67 years old. During this time, the metal has undergone significant external corrosion, and the joints have lost their tightness due to water hammer. The consequence has been systematic damage in this section, which became the reason for a complete replacement, rather than local repair.
Information about the start of works was published by the executive committee of the Kryvyi Rih City Council.
