On September 3, two police officers were killed in the Pavlohrad district of Dnipropetrovsk region while performing their duties. The investigative and operational group went to the Bohdanivka community to document the consequences of a previous enemy strike, and it was then that the enemy used the tactic of a repeated strike: a UAV attacked law enforcement officers directly at their workplace. The death of both officers was confirmed by the National Police of Ukraine.
Killed and Wounded
Police Captain Oleksandr Hryhorenko died on the spot. He was 40 years old. Senior Police Lieutenant Serhiy Shmatko sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital - doctors could not save him. He was 27 years old. Another law enforcement officer from the same group was seriously wounded and is currently in the hospital.
Biographies of the Officers
Oleksandr Hryhorenko dedicated almost 11 years to police service. During this time, he rose from a rank-and-file patrol officer to the head of the patrol police response sector of Police Station No. 1 of the Pavlohrad District Police Department.
Serhiy Shmatko linked his life with the law enforcement system during his student years - while studying at the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs. After graduation, he worked as an investigator and an operative of the criminal investigation department. Since 2025, he held the position of investigator of the investigative department of Police Station No. 1 of the Pavlohrad District Police Department.

The Dnipropetrovsk police lost two colleagues who honestly and faithfully performed their official duty. Oleksandr Hryhorenko and Serhiy Shmatko will forever remain a part of our large police family. Their lives were taken by the war, but the memory of them will live forever in the hearts of all who knew them.
