Ukrainian citizens traveling abroad with cash must comply with the currency rules established by the National Bank of Ukraine. Resident individuals can cross the border with an amount up to 10,000 euros in equivalent without providing any supporting documents. The limit applies to any foreign currency: if the money is in US dollars, their equivalent in euros still should not exceed this mark. If the amount is larger, the origin of the funds must be confirmed. Specifically, documents proving the withdrawal of cash from one's bank account must be provided, and if the money was obtained through exchange, a certificate of currency exchange operation is also required.
What documents are needed when transporting more than 10,000 euros
One of the following documents will suffice to confirm the withdrawal of funds from an account:
bank statement;
ATM receipt or payment terminal receipt;
fiscal receipt.
If the currency was acquired through an exchange office or bank, a certificate of the performed currency exchange operation is added to the package of documents. Important: these requirements do not apply to non-cash bank transfers - declaration rules apply exclusively to cash.
Penalty for violation
Failure to comply with declaration rules will be costly for the violator. For exporting cash exceeding the established limit without appropriate documents, a fine of 20% of the excess amount is provided - that is, from the part that goes beyond 10,000 euros.
