The Dnipropetrovsk Fisheries Protection Patrol reported that as of July 1, the ban on crayfish fishing in the waters of the Dnipropetrovsk region, which was in effect during their reproduction and first molting, has ended. Amateur fishing is now permitted, provided the Rules of Amateur Fishing are observed.
The maximum number of crayfish that can be caught per day is 30 per person. For Dnipro reservoirs, the minimum size of a crayfish is 11 cm, measured along the back from the line between the middle of the eyes to the edge of the middle tail plate.
Permitted fishing methods
manual collection;
one "hapka" type crayfish trap with a diameter of up to 70 cm, mesh size up to 22 mm;
a landing net with a diameter of up to 100 cm;
a "khvatka" ("spider") measuring up to 1x1 m, mesh size of the net fabric up to 10 mm.
Manual collection of crayfish at night using illumination is prohibited. This restriction applies from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise.
Illegal fishing entails administrative or criminal liability. Violators are also obliged to compensate for damages – UAH 3,332 for each illegally caught crayfish.
