On June 28, at 4:50 PM, the police received a report about a dead infant in a baby stroller, found in one of the dormitory rooms. No adults were present at the scene.
The investigation established that the mother is a 34-year-old woman from the city. According to the police, she did not care for the girl and barely fed her. When the child's condition became critical, the woman did not call for medical help.
After the infant's death, the mother did not contact doctors or the police. She moved the stroller with her daughter's body to another room in the dormitory and fled.
The forensic medical examination's conclusion is shocking: the cause of death of the two-month-old girl was critical exhaustion due to prolonged malnutrition. The child literally died of hunger.
The police of the Dnipro District Department No. 2 located the woman and detained her in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The detained woman has another child – a two-year-old boy. He was removed from the family by juvenile prevention officers and child welfare services. Currently, the boy is under the supervision of doctors and is receiving the necessary assistance.
According to the police, this family was never registered with social services and did not attract attention.
Two criminal proceedings have been initiated against the woman:
malicious non-fulfillment of duties regarding child care;
leaving a minor child without assistance, which led to her death.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
