In Nikopol, during the evacuation of a wounded woman, Russian forces struck again - at the location where rescuers were already working. A State Emergency Service rescuer died from injuries sustained in this strike.
He was identified as 23-year-old Danylo Khyzhniak. On August 6, 2025, a shell hit a residential building in the city, injuring a woman inside. Khyzhniak was among the first to arrive, provided her with pre-medical aid, and helped her get into an evacuation vehicle. It was then that the second strike occurred.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he had worked in the most dangerous areas, particularly in the Nikopol region. In addition to responding to shelling aftermaths, Khyzhniak conducted training and assessed his colleagues.
Danylo Khyzhniak's name has been entered into the Book of Remembrance of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs system as a rescuer who gave his life performing his duty. He will forever remain 23 years old.
