The Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of a student suspected of cooperating with Russian special services to adjust strikes on the Dnipropetrovsk region. The information was released by the press service of the SBU.
According to the investigation, the student was recruited through a Telegram channel where he was looking for opportunities to earn money. The first task he was allegedly given was to track the parking location of a Ukrainian serviceman's car in Kyiv and provide coordinates.
Subsequently, according to the SBU, the suspect focused on collecting information in the Nikopol district, which is regularly subjected to attacks using aerial bombs, artillery, and drones. He gathered data on the deployment locations and logistical hubs of the Defense Forces, and also tried to obtain information about strategically important bridges and railway stations.
For this purpose, the suspect personally traveled to the frontline zone, inspected objects, and photographed them. After each such trip, according to the SBU, he compiled reports, adding photographic materials and coordinates on electronic maps, which was supposed to help the enemy more accurately identify targets.
To avoid detention, the suspect moved to the Cherkasy region and settled in rented accommodation. However, SBU officers established his whereabouts. During the search, law enforcement officers seized a smartphone, which, according to the agency, contains evidence of contacts with representatives of the aggressor country.
The suspect has been charged with high treason committed under martial law. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail. If found guilty, the article's sanction provides for life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
